Tyler Collings Shatters Record At TBHS Sports
New Zealand Schools' Champion Tyler Collings showed his genuine
class in running 49.0sec for 400 metres to shatter the Senior Boys' 400 metre record by
3.2 seconds.
In an exhibition that drew spontaneous applause from his fellow students, Collings ran
with precision and control to eclipse Simon Scarlett's 1999
record of 52.2 sec.
Later in the day Collings, pictured right with coach and joint record holder Don Garland,
ran 11.0 sec to take out the Senior 100 metres and equal the school record jointly held
by Don Garland (1973) and Dallas
Roberts (1996). Collings also won the 200m in emphatic style, recording
24.1sec.
Brett Clifford (pictured left) became the second TBHS
athlete, following in the footsteps of Dick Tayler, to better 2
minutes for the two laps, 800 metres. Running with astute pace judgement he ran the
opening lap in 57sec and held his form well to record 1 min 58.6sec to better the record
by 2 seconds.
In the 1500m Senior Final, Clifford gave Darryl Charteris's
record of 4 min 13.2 sec a good nudge. Clifford recorded 4min 16.7 sec in a fine run,
heading off Josh Westland and Tom
Charteris .
Sam Small (pictured right) was the third record breaker
with a fine 1.85 metre clearance in the Intermediate High Jump. This bettered the
previous record of 1.79m held by Jarred Mannex . Small also won
the intermediate Discus and Javelin titles.
Other standout performances came from: Jonathan Lord in the
Open Walk with a classy 6min 49.01 sec effort. Bradley Lang and
Alex Smith dominated in their respective Intermediate sprints
and distance events.
Hamish Dewar was the best performed Junior, winning five events
while Marc Rooney and Ronan Jacobs
did best of the Under 14's.
