TBHS V St Andrews' College (WINTER)
Past Results
Three hundred boys took part in the annual Timaru Boys’ High School exchange
against St Andrew’s College.
Results for the seven rugby teams were mixed with victories to the TBHS 1st XV,
Lions (v STAC Under 15 B team) and the Under 14A team. The 2nd XV and Colts
teams found the going tough in the sticky conditions against strong opposition.
Both the 2nd XV and Colts were plagued by simple mistakes. The Mustangs went down
in a very close and even tussle while the U14 B had a convincing win.
Timaru Boys’ High School had a very good day at the hockey with very good
victories to both the 1st and 2nd XI. The 1st XI took their opportunities well to
take the win 2-0 with goals to Simon Small and Shannon Hardacre while the 2nds
had a well deserved 6-4 win.
The Senior Basketball team was outstanding in its match winning a hard fought
encounter 50-45. Captain Tom Patterson was top scorer with 15 points. He was a
safe shoot and a tireless defender. Tristan Brady, Michael Spurdle and Hamish
Anderson all used their size and skill to counter the taller St Andrew’s
regularly.
Badminton could not cap off a close event with a victory but there were good
performances from Tom Armstrong, Jesse Kempf and captain Sam Elliotte.
Squash continues to be a sport that is strong at the school and the 4-0 win was a
reflection of the strengths in the two teams. Chris Williams and Alex Smith were
prominent.
Debating had the moot, “That reintroducing knighthoods is a backward step for New
Zealand.” They took the negative side and had a convincing win with Bradley
Nicholson the team’s best speaker.
Trapshooting went down 386-370 in a close contest and will look to better.
A young Chess team was outplayed but Jack Moffett and Jonathan Samson-Noble gain
a victory each.
St Andrew’s won the Golf easily at Levels in what was a good contest in perfect
conditions. Damian Rogers had a good day playing a round of 82-12-70.
The 1st XI Soccer team went down 6-1 after being down 3-1 at halftime. The 2nd
XI lost 3-2. James Blatherwick scored early and Tyler Collings soon after but
some good play from St Andrew’s agave them a lead which Timaru could not come
back from. Both the Junior Soccer teams struggled to get going despite being on
their home ground.
