SUMMER SPORTS PRIZEGIVING - 2009
Seven athletes gained Colours Awards, which are issued in recognition of
excellence while representing the school. These boys’ achievements are
highlighted below.
Athletics
Brett Clifford
Brett placed 4th in both the Junior Road Race and 1500m at the National Secondary
Schools. He was 1st in South Island Secondary Schools Junior 800m and 1500m.
Daniel Lord
Daniel retained his National Secondary Schools Open Walk title, and he set a new
record when he won the South Island Secondary Schools Open Walk.
Jarred Mannex
Jarred was 2nd in the U16 High Jump and 3rd in U16 Long Jump at the South Island
Secondary Schools, and was TBHS Intermediate Champion.
Simon Small
Simon placed 2nd in the Senior High Jump and 3rd in the Senior 110m Hurdles at
the South Island Secondary Schools
Tomas Walsh
Tom won the National Secondary Schools Senior Shotput and set a new record. He
placed 3rd in the Senior Discus. Tom also won the South Island Secondary Schools
Senior Shotput title with a record throw.
William Wright
Will was placed 4th in the Senior Javelin at the National Secondary Schools and
2nd in the Senior Javelin at South Island Secondary Schools.
Cricket
Tomas Walsh
Tom was selected in the Canterbury U17 cricket team and was a crucial member of
the TBHS 1st XI
Simon Ward
Simon was selected in the Canterbury Willows XI and was the captain of the TBHS
1st XI
Lawn Bowls
Joshua Dick and Mitchell Tresize won the Zone 6 (Lower South Island) National
qualifying tournament and can represent TBHS at the Nationals
Rowing
Scott Buckingham, Jesse Smith, Jared Sanderson, Aziz Askin, Hooper
Kelly-Smith (coxswain)
These rowers combined as a U18 Novice four to place 2nd at the Maadi Cup which is
the National Secondary Schools Rowing championships. They placed 3rd in the
National Open Rowing Championships against adult competition. They also won the
South Island Secondary Schools Novice four title.
Matt Ryan
Matt gained 2 medals at the National Open Rowing Championships against adult
competition. He placed in the top 10 in single sculls at the Maadi Cup in 2009.
Brad Ryan
Placed 3rd at Maadi and also placed in Top 10 in lightweight Open four at the
same event.
