TBHS SWIMMING SPORTS - 2009

The Annual Timaru Boys High School Swimming Sports was held last Thursday in perfect conditions. It was very pleasing to again to see the quality of swimmers on display but it was four boys in the main who dominated the top placings.

The Senior Events were dominated by two very competent swimmers, Luke Andrew and Alex Bennet. The two boys were 1st and 2nd in each of the events they competed in with Andrew always coming on top by slight margins. These races included the 50, 100 and 200 metre freestyle, and 50 metre backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly events.

The Junior Events were also highlighted by the performances of three excellent swimming prospects, Anton van Vugt, Marcus Wills and Kyle Uys. As it had been in the Senior Events it was van Vugt who pipped Wills each time for First placing. 

The 1500 metre race was held earlier in the week and Alex Bennet saw off the competition of Luke Andrew and van Vugt to win in a respectable time of 20 minutes

In the traditional Interhouse relays Dawson won the Senior and Junior Events as well as the Open Freestyle event. Simmers won the prestigious Novelty award as Year 12 and 13 boys lifted the smallest Year 9’s on their backs from end to end of the swimming pool in a fun-filled race.

Though no records were broken in the competition, like there had been in the preceding three years, the competition this year was just as strong as the greater evenness in individual results and final House Points suggests.

Final House Points were Dawson 518, Hogben and Tait 425 and Simmers 381.
