20 year old record broken at TBHS swimming champs

The Boys' High pool was awash with colour at the TBHS swimming champs on Friday. The boys took the opportunity to dress in house colours at this annual event.

They were also on hand to witness a 20 year old swim record being broken. Year 10 student Kyle Uys, broke this long standing record during the swimming champs held at the School pool in the 50m freestyle junior event. He recorded a time of 29 seconds bettering the record set in 1990 by A Mackie.

Uys also won the championship events in backstroke and breaststroke and took out the 100m and 200m freestyleevents.  Not surprisingly, Uys won the Junior Championship ahead of Timothy Colson.  Kyle looks set to dominate swimming events at TBHS in the next few years.  Earlier in the week Uys won the 1500 m open (45 lengths of the pool), showing that he is dominant in the longer distances as well.

Other swimmers to feature at the champs were Luke Andrew who made a clean sweep of the other senior events.  Alex Bennett (senior) and Anton Van Vugt (senior) were runners up.

Dawson House won best overall house, with Tait second, Hogben third with Simmers fourth.
