SHORT TERM ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMME - 2008
As well as tutoring full time International Students, Timaru Boys' High School
also offers a comprehensive English Language Programme and an introduction to our
New Zealand lifestyle to small groups of International students on short
programmes.
English Language Programme
Students attend class from 9am to 12.45 pm with a break of 20 minutes from 10.40
Ä 11.00 am.
Some of the learning will involve formal language study. English lessons will
have a focus on formal reading and writing, grammar and vocabulary. Informal
conversation will also be offered based on the formal lessons emphasizing
listening and speaking.
Students will also have the opportunity to attend other subject classes including
mathematics, science, social sciences, economics, art, food technology,
horticulture, computer studies, music, workshop technology and physical
education.
There will be an opportunity for the students to evaluate the language programme
at the end of the Short Programme.
Students will be provided with a Certificate of Completion of the programme
together with an individual student progress report.

ACTIVITIES
Activities would normally take place in the afternoon but in some instances they
will be a full day or involve an overnight stay. Some are dependent on the timing
of the programme.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation during term time is at Thomas House, the TBHS boarding hostel.
This is seven day a week boarding with all meals, laundry and supervision
included. Dietary needs of the students will be taken into consideration.
Threre are 75 students in the boarding hostel ranging in age from 13 - 18 years
old. During the school holidays, accommodation will be arranged with Timaru
homestay families.
CLOTHING
Short programme students will not need to wear school uniform. They will need to
provide their own clothing that is suitable for school wear, after school,
weekends and activities.
This should consist of:
Students whose programme takes place outside of the summer months need to
remember that they will feel the cold and need to have suitable warm clothing.
All washing is done in the hostel in commercial washing machines. All clothing
must be colour fast, machine washable and not have plastic logos e.g. on T shirts
