Mountain biking

Congratulations to Thomas Prestidge on his success in recent Mountainbike events:
Central South Island Charity Bike (19-21 February) over 376km. The 165 riders raised $116,000 for local charities.
Pass to Pub Mountainbike Race (1 March) saw him and Kadin Morse (TBHS 2008) perform exceptionally well with Kadin gaining 1st and Thomas 2nd places in the Under 18 Youth Boys’ Section. More impressively, these 2 young men finished 5th overall (Kadin) and 8th overall (Thomas).
Geraldine Bike Challenge (15 March), an open event over 71 kms with 75 riders. Thomas won the junior section in 3 hrs 3 mins and was placed 6th overall.
Wee MacGregor Mountainbike (22 March), an event that attracted 50 riders. Held over 40km on the shores of Lake Tekapo, it included a 350m climb up the mountain. Thomas won the junior section in 1 hr 51 mins and was 3rd overall.

Thomas Prestidge continued his good run of form in mountain biking events. On 29 March at the Raincliff Rumble Challenge held over a demanding 28km course, he again won the junior section and also finished a very creditable fourth overall. The inaugural “South Canterbury Mountain Bike Cup” series was held over 3 local events this year. With two second places and one win in his age group, Thomas won the U19 male category. David Ashby-Coventry was 2nd in the U15 male. Both Thomas and David were members of the Timaruvian Terrors U18 Junior team at the Naseby 12 hour Mountainbike Race on 25 April. The event was held over a 10km course running from 9am to 9pm with the team members sharing the laps. Their team completed 24 laps in 12 hours. They finished first in the junior section and 11th overall out of the 156 teams competing. Thomas set the 2nd fastest lap and David the 4th fastest lap overall.

Aoraki Secondary Schools' Cycling Championships

The Aoraki Cycling Championships where held on 15 May and Timaru Boys’ High School achieved some very fine results. In the team’s event our Junior team of Ryan Miller, Callum Fix and Sam Thomas came first. Well done to our Senior team of Kadin Morse, Thomas Prestidge and James Miller who finished a creditable fourth against very strong opposition.

In the Time trials, Callum (junior) came third, and Kadin (Senior) also came third. In the Scratch event, Ryan (junior) came third and Kadin (senior) fifth.
