HOCKEY - 2009

Our 2nd XI Hockey team, Justin Hardacre (captain), Nick Marshall, Jarrad Mannex, Andrew Ross, Ben Smithson, Matt Southgate, Cameron Gray, Sam Davidson, Chris Arthur, Reuben Mitchell, James Todd, Shannon Sim, William Ching, Matt Dockrill and Jared Martin were runners up in the round robin competition and won the McLay Trophy. They won the Kaan Cup for the most goals scored by a secondary school team and were the winners of the Champion of Champions Games. Congratulations.

The winter hockey season for 2009 has now come to a close. A comment that is often made to me about hockey at TBHS is what a terrific bunch of parents we have supporting us and this year has been no exception. My thanks to those parents who have been on the club committee, to those who have coached or managed and to those who give their support on the sideline. The TBHS hockey club is one of the biggest hockey clubs in South Canterbury with six teams competing; this would not happen without the generous donation of time and support from parents. The boys and the school really appreciate your efforts.

As a forerunner to 2010, please consider how you might like to help your son and the hockey club. The AGM will occur early in 2010 and planning is about to get underway for next winter.

Winter Tournament

The 1st XI Hockey came 10th in the 16 teams that were present. Timaru was in a tough pool and this showed in the early part of the week. As the week progressed the team improved and results were positive.
Some of the better players over the week were captain Sam Bennett and Nik McPherson while defender Mark Southgate and goalie Ross Hayman also had good tournaments.
The 2nd XI Hockey had a very good week and finished 9th out of 16 teams. This team lost their first three matches but won their last three. This show much promise for the future.
Best player over the week was Chris Arthur who gained the MVP for the tournament. He was well supported by William Ching and Justin Hardacre as captain.

HOCKEY - 2008

TBHS Hockey season

The 2008 season has drawn to a close for TBHS hockey. The two top teams travelled to tournaments during tournament week, the 1sts to Dunedin and the India Shield and the 2nds to Invercargill for the Johnson Cup. The club has also had its annual break-up, which was well attended by players and parents. Badges were handed out to the new 1st XI team members and those boys who have given 5 years service to hockey at TBHS. Trophies were also awarded for the Player of the Year and the Most Improved from each team.

Winter Tournament

The 1sts were able to maintain their position in the India Shield for 2009 (a North Island venue for next year) with two good wins over Hutt International School and Massey High School and a draw against Bethlehem College. The losses were against very good teams. Standout players were Sam Bennett, Richard Cooper, Simon Small, Ryan Ammar
2ND XI HOCKEY	St Bede's College Southland BHS Southland BHS	loss loss draw	1-3 0-3 1-1
The boys played better than the results indicate. The best game was against St Bede's. All the games were against 1st XIs so our young side was playing teams who were largely three years older.
