LAWN BOWLS - 2009
Around 50 students representing schools from Oamaru, Geraldine, Timaru and Ashburton took part in the Aoraki Tournament held recently at the Kia Toa Bowling Club. The teams from Timaru Boys’ High School played very well and gained some excellent results. In the boys’ pairs Josh Dick and Mitchell Trezise were placed second and Ben Dunbar and Brentton Donaldson came first. In the boys’ singles Keanu Darby was placed second. All of these students will now travel to Alexandra to represent the Aoraki region at the Zone 6 tournament on 3 April. We wish them well at the tournament.
On the 3 April 5 boys travelled to Alexandra representing the Aoraki region at the
Zone 6 Tournament. In the boys’ singles Keanu Darby played remarkably
well for his age and experience. He won his first 2 games, lost the third and was only
2 differential points off qualifying to play in the finals. Keanu gained valuable
experience from the tournament and we look forward to seeing him develop as a player in
the future. In the boys’ pairs Ben Dunbar and Brentton Donaldson were defeated in their
first game by Waitaki Boys’ High School, had a bye for their second game and won their
third game. Unfortunately they were 2 differential points short of gaining a place in
the final and the boys were very disappointed. Josh Dick and Mitchell Trezise also
played in the boys’ pairs and they were the top qualifiers for the finals, winning all
3 games. Their final game was against Otago Boys’ High School and at the bell the
scores were even. Fortunately the boys came away with the win and they now go forward
as the Bowls South Canterbury representatives to the National Zone Finals in Auckland
on 13 - 15 December. We congratulate Josh and Mitchell and wish them well at the
tournament later this year.

Ben Dunbar and Brentton Donaldson are off to the North Island Secondary Schools Lawn Bowls Tournament in the North Island shortly. These boys won their section last year which has granted them entry.
Aoraki Secondary Schools' Lawn Bowls Championships
Sixty-four players contested the annual Lawn Bowls Pairs Championships to conclude the Aoraki Secondary Schools bowls season. In the boys’ pairs, Timaru Boys’ High School’s Ben Dunbar and Brentton Donaldson beat Mountainview High School and Geraldine High School.
